Ohio University-Chillicothe (OU-C) is a regional
campus ofOhio University located in Chillicothe, the first state capital ofOhio . The main campus of Ohio University is located inAthens, Ohio . More than 8,000 students attend Ohio University's five regional campuses. The other campuses include OU-Eastern (St. Clairsville), OU-Zanesville, OU-Lancaster, and OU-Southern (Ironton). Situated about 45 miles south of the current state capital of Columbus in theAppalachian foothills, OU-C is a non-residential campus with an enrollment of over 1,900 students. Primarily a two-year school that feeds the main campus of Ohio University, OU-C offers thirteenassociate degree s in fields such asnursing , law enforcement,computer science andbusiness management . The campus also offers eight four-yearbachelor's degree s in fields such ascriminal justice ,education , andcommunication s, and threemaster's degree s inengineering ,business administration , andsocial science s. There are over thirty full-time faculty members and more than seventy adjunct faculty.The oldest of the five regional campuses of Ohio University, OU-C opened as a regional campus in September
1946 to help eliminate post-World War II overcrowding on the university's main campus. The school began with 281 students, 70% of which were armed services veterans. The university received guidance from the Chillicothe community first through a citizens advisory committee, changed later to a board of trustees. The current regional coordinating council was adopted in1972 .Beginning with night courses at Chillicothe High School, OU-C started daytime classes in September
1960 at Chillicothe's First Presbyterian Church. The school moved to its current location on University Hill on the western side of the city in September1966 .External links
