next_link ="Esta Balada Que Te Dou" (English translation: "This Ballad That I Give You") was the Portuguese entry in the
Eurovision Song Contest 1983 , performed in Portuguese byArmando Gama .The song, as the title suggests, is a piano-driven ballad. Gama describes the end of a relationship, all the while dedicating "this ballad" to his former lover and explaining that there is nothing wrong with being sad.
The song was performed seventeenth on the night (following
Israel 'sOfra Haza with "Khay " and precedingAustria 's Westend with "Hurricane"). At the close of voting, it had received 33 points, placing 13th in a field of 20.It was succeeded as Portuguese representative at the 1984 Contest by
Maria Guinot with "Silêncio E Tanta Gente ".Critics have pointed out the eery similarity of its chorus with that of
Paul Simon 's hit "Still Crazy After All These Years ". [See the song sang by a contestant in the 11 December, 2007 gala of the Operação Triunfo TV show (portuguese version ofStar Academy ) at http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=1AlW_Ie1hAo]Notes
