compact car that was produced byToyota inAustralia between August 1989 and 1996 and sold under theHolden nameplate. The car was essentially rebadged version of the sixth- and seventh-generationToyota Corolla although did receive minor stylistic changes. Unlike the Corolla however, the Nova was sold only as a four-door sedan and five-doorhatchback .The car was a result of the failed
Button car plan which attempted to rationalise the Australian car manufacturing industry. The "LE" and "LF" series (sixth-generation Corolla) were sold between 1989 and 1993, and the "LG" Nova (seventh-generation) was sold between 1994 and 1996. In all years, the Nova was outsold by the Toyota Corolla in Australia, and from 1996 car was replaced by theHolden Astra .cite web | url = http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/60DB5F93CC0B207FCA256D21001310D6 | title = Holden LE–LF Nova overview | publisher = GoAuto | accessdate = 2007-03-28]pecification levels
The "LE" was offered with Toyota's 1.4
litre 60kilowatt (hatchback only) and 1.6 litre 67 kilowatt engine, in Holden's traditional SL (hatchback only), SL/X and SL/E trims. The "LF" Nova, available from October 1991, added fuel injection to the 1.6 litre 75 kilowatt units. The SL/E hatchback was replaced by a GS model, although SL/E continued as a trim on the sedan, then in October 1992, a fuel-injected 1.8 litre 85 kilowatt engine was offered for the GS hatchback. The 1.4 litre option and the SL/Es were unavailable from 1993.A smaller range was offered for the "LG" Nova in 1994. The SL/X trim level was equipped with a 1.6 litre 78 kilowatt engine, while GS denoted a 1.8 litre engine. Four- and five-door options were offered for both trim levels, and all engines throughout the range were fuel injected.
