Fort Hunt ,Fairfax County, Virginia . It is administered by theNational Park Service as part of theGeorge Washington Memorial Parkway .This park is located along the
Potomac River just 11 miles south ofWashington, D. C. Its proximity to the Nation's capital dramatically affected the land use history. What occurred on this site frequently mirrored the political and social history of the United States. From the colonial era to the present, this site was used as a farm, a Spanish American War coastal fortification, aCivilian Conservation Corps camp, the setting for top secret World War II military intelligence operations (known as "P.O. Box 1142"), and now as a popular picnic area.
