Arthur Lucas

Arthur Lucas and Ronald Turpin were the last people to be executed in Canada, on December 10, 1962. Lucas had been convicted of the murders of Therland Crater and Carolyn Ann Newman. [cite web

accessdate = 2007-11-25 ] The method of execution was hanging, the only form of capital punishment ever used in Canada. In 1976, capital punishment for murder was removed from Canada's Criminal Code. Although the two were hanged at the same time, Turpin died sooner because Lucas's hanging was botched because he had lost so much weight while in prison. During the hanging, Lucas's head was partially separated from his body.
