Baghdati ( _ka. ბაღდათი) is a town of 4,700 people in the
Imereti region of western Georgia, at the edge of the Ajameti forest on the Khanistskali River. From 1940 to 1990, it was calledMayakovsky after the Russian poet who was born there.The name "Baghdati" come from the
Middle Persian compound of Bâg "god" + dād "given", translating to "god-given" or "God's gift", whenceModern Persian Baɣdād. The city shares the same etymology with the city ofBaghdad , capital of theRepublic of Iraq .External links
