Uranium nitride (U2N3) is a ceramic compound used as nuclear fuel in nuclear test reactors, because it has properties similar to uranium dioxide or uranium carbide. It can be synthesized by the reaction of nitrogen with uranium at 700 K. [Cotton, Simon (1991) Lanthanides and Actinides. New York: Oxford University Press, p. 126] Uranium nitride is also formed as a product of uranium combustion in air.
