(1994)"Pretty on the Inside" is Hole's first album, released in 1991 by Caroline Records.The recording took place at L.A.'s Music Box Studios.With
Sonic Youth 's bassistKim Gordon and Gumball's leader Don Fleming in charge of production, the studio work took only four days. The album features a cover ofJoni Mitchell 's "Both Sides Now" (credited as "Clouds") and two noise suites: "Sassy" and "Starbelly" as well as an overall strongpunk rock influence.The only single taken from the album was "Teenage Whore ", which went into Number 1 in the U.K. Indie charts in late 1991. Only one video was made to a song on the album, "Garbadge Man ". Both the bassist,Jill Emery and the drummer,Caroline Rue , left the band after the release of the album.The album has sold 204,000 copies in the U.S. and 400,000 copies worldwide.

*"Starbelly" is based on the main riff ofNeil Young 's "Cinnamon Girl", and features a cassette-played excerpt from "Rhiannon" byFleetwood Mac and an early recording of "Best Sunday Dress" by The Pagan Babies, one of Love's earlier bands withKat Bjelland . The latter would be redone and re-recorded by Hole in1998
*'Clouds' is a cover version of theJoni Mitchell hitBoth Sides Now , complete with altered lyrics and title.
