fictional character on the FX television series "Dirt", played byIan Hart .History
Don Konkey was in the journalism club with
Lucy Spiller during college, and as such is the only character she has a true bond with. He suffers from manageableschizophrenia , and is often reluctant to take medication, even at the request of Lucy. He loses his cat Tristan in episode one to feline cancer, but starts seeing the ghost of Kira Klay in episode two. In episode four, she tells Don to take his medication, and he is stubborn to do it because he knows she'll "go away". She also gave birth to "kids" which were actually kittens. In the following episode he gives away most of the kittens for free, keeping just a white one in remembrance of his deceased cat, Tristan.Recently, he has begun dating a
bulimic waitress named Abby, who thinks Don's schizophrenia is an artistic gift, and looks down on his job with Lucy. He is also a very talented photographer who took pictures of between others Leo Spiller and his boyfriend and of an in closet lesbian star dancing with her girlfriend thanks to his watch. He is also always there whenever Lucy needs comfort.Towards the season finale, his schizophrenia gets steadily worse and he is haunted by voices instructing him to kill Lucy. Lucy's private investigators find him on the verge of slitting his throat, and he is put in hospital where we learn he is going on medication so this will never happen again, whilst also giving Lucy his medical power of attorney for his own safety. In the closing scenes, Lucy, having been attacked by
Julia Mallory , orders him to come and take pictures of her before ringing 911, which he complies with - even though she is dying. The episode ends with ambulance sirens approaching as he cradles her body lying in a pool of blood.Trivia
*Don usually breaks the 4th wall at the beginning of every episode as the recap teller and makes several jokes such as "DirtNow" photographer and voiceover extraordinaire" or "in this episode blah, blah blahs happens, enjoy".
