The district goes back to "
Mueang " Kabil (เมืองกบิล), which was deserted after it was invaded by an enemy army. It was later resettled by Lao people.The district name means "Field of Kae trees", which grew a lot in the swampy areas.
Administration
The district is subdivided into 12 subdistricts ("
tambon "), which are further subdivided into 127 villages ("muban "). Na Kae itself has township ("thesaban tambon ") status and covers part of the "tambon" Na Kae. There are further 12 "tambon" Tambon administrative organization (TAO).Missing numbers are "tambon" which now form Wang Yang district.
