Judy Napangardi Watson (born "circa" 1925) is an
Indigenous Australian , senior female painter from theYuendumu community in theNorthern Territory ,Australia . She is well known for the distinctive style of painting that she developed alongside her sisterMaggie Watson who taught her painting skills. Born atYarungkanji , Mt. Doreen Station, at a time when manyWarlpiri and other Central and Western Desert Peoples were living a traditional nomadic life. With her family Judy made many trips on foot to her country and lived for long periods atMina Mina andYingipurlangu , her ancestral country on the border of the Tanami andGibson Desert s. These places are rich in bush tucker such as wanakiji, bush plums, yakajirri,bush tomato es, and wardapi,sand goanna . Judy still frequently goes hunting in the country west of Yuendumu, near her homelands. The combination of vivid colour, highly detailed works and high-level composition have led to widespread appreciation in the art world. Her paintings often describe the Mina Mina country.
