With nearly 500 beds, Sanford University of South Dakota Medical Center is the largest tertiary hospital in South Dakota, serving as the primary teaching institution for the Sanford School of Medicine University of South Dakota. Employing nearly 4,500 staff, Sanford USD Medical Center is the largest employer in Sioux Falls. As a full service community-owned hospital, Sanford provides a full complement of medical and surgical care, both inpatient and outpatient, in all specialties with Centers of Excellence for:

This $55 million dollar facility provides state-of-the-art surgical services plus houses the new Boekelheide Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the first phase of Sanford Children’s Hospital. U.S.News & World Report listed Sanford among the top 50 hospitals in three specialty areas: Endocrinology, Gynecology, and Urology. And J.D. Power and Associates recognized Sanford Health for a third consecutive year for service excellence as a Distinguished Hospital.

Of the 5,189 hospitals evaluated for U.S.News & World Report, only 176 hospitals scored high enough to be ranked in any specialty. In other words, only 3.4% of the hospitals initially screened made this list of “America’s Best Hospitals.”As a Solucient Top 100 Hospital, Sanford was recognized for its excellence in quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance and adaptation to the environment. This is the fifth time Sanford Health has been recognized with this honor.

J.D. Power & Associates Distinguished Hospital Program acknowledges Sanford's strong commitment to providing its patients with an outstanding inpatient experience. In the study, Sanford Health notably exceeded the national benchmark study score for overall inpatient satisfaction. Additionally, a majority of Sanford patients indicated they had more or much more trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent stay.
