Julie Atherton is a British stage actor, who has recently finished playing the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q the musical, in London's West End. She released her debut album, 'A Girl of Few Words' on the 6th of October, 2006.

Julie grew up in Preston and started her training at Carnial Newham College before moving to Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. She graduated in 1999.

Whilst training at Mountview, she played Fern in Charlotte's Web at the Polka Children's Theatre in Wimbledon. After this she played Iris Bentley in Let Him Have Justice. Julie was later cast in the lead role of Sophie in Mamma Mia! (London production Cast 2, March 2000 to March 2001) and then as Serena Katz in the national tour of Fame. A season was then spent appearing in Out of this World at the Chicester Festival Theatre and as the Kolokolo Bird in the Stiles and Drewe musical Just So. She returned to Fame in the West End, reprising the role of Serena. She also starred in Avenue Q, in the original London cast, when the show transferred from Broadway to the Noel Coward Theatre in the West End.

Julie is a founder member of the company of Notes From New York, which is a series of shows bringing the works of US composers to the West End stage. She has performed in five of the six Notes From New York shows to date.

Julie left Avenue Q to pursue a new role on December 1st 2007. In an interview with [http://www.julieatherton.net her official fansite, JulieAtherton.net] on July 4th 2007, Julie announced that there would be a concert of the songs featured on her debut Album, 'A Girl of Few Words' in 2008. The fansite also announced that Julie's next project after Avenue Q will be an appearance in the one off special 'Christmas in New York', part of the 'Notes from New York' series, which she took part in at the Lyric Theatre on December 9th 2007.

Julie appeared in the new musical, Once Upon A Time At The Adelphi at the Liverpool Playhouse from 28th June 2008 to 2nd of August 2008, and has now announced the she will reprise her role as Kate Monster/ Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q at the Noel Coward Theatre in December 2008 for a six month period.Other projects before then include a return to the Notes from New York series with "the last 5 years" at the theatre Royal Haymarket on the 12th, 19th and 26th October, and the premier of a new musical "Ordinary Days" at the Finborough Theatre, Kensington and Chelsea.
