Benjamin of Petrograd

Hieromartyr Benjamin (born Vasily Pavlovich Kazansky) was the Metropolitan of the Russian Orthodox Church in Petersburg [ [http://www.roca.org/OA/66-68/66h.htm Orthodox Church in America] ] and Gdovsk in Russia. He was executed on 13 august, 1922 Old Calendar, 26 august, 1922 New Calendar, by a firing squad under orders from the Soviet government.

Hieromartyr Benjamin was declared saint by the Russian Orthodox Church. His memory is commemorated on July 31. [ [http://ocafs.oca.org/FeastSaintsLife.asp?FSID=102157 Feasts and Saints] ]
