- Templin Highway
Templin Highway is a two-lane road in
Los Angeles County, California ,United States that connects Interstate 5 and the oldGolden State Highway with the north end ofCastaic Lake . Originally named Warm Springs Road, it was renamed in 1967 after county highway commissioner Newton H. Templin, who had promoted the road's construction. [Valley News (Van Nuys) ,October 20 ,1967 ] Until plans were canceled in 1980, the road was to continue east; a 1958 plan shows it extending to San Francisquito Canyon Road as anexpressway ,Metropolitan Transportation Engineering Board , [http://cahighways.org/maps/1956-la-mteb2.pdf Master Plan of Freeways and Expressways] , adoptedFebruary 28 ,1958 ] and by 1975 it was to connect with Spunky Canyon Road near theBouquet Reservoir . Mr. Monk Gets Stuck in Traffic ", an episode of theTV series "Monk", the crew turned Templin Highway into afreeway by constructing amedian barrier out ofcinder block s. [Terry J. Erdmann, Paula M. Block, Monk: The Official Episode Guide, 2006, p. 142]The highway also appears in the movie "Serenity" (2005) as the setting for the skiff chase scene.
