*April 4 - 25,000 National Volunteers assemble at the Phoenix Park. John Redmond takes the salute from under the statue of Charles Stewart Parnell on Sackville Street.
*April 5 - At the National Volunteers convention at the Mansion House John Redmond praises their response to World War I.
*May 7 - The RMS Lusitania is torpedoed by German submarines about eight miles off the coast of Kinsale, County Cork while en route from New York to Liverpool. 1,195 lives lost.
*May 25 - The British Prime Minister appoints a national wartime coalition of 12 Liberals, 8 Unionists and 1 Labour member. In Dublin the Irish Parliamentary Party approves John Redmond's decision not to join.
*July 29 - Republicans, led by Patrick Pearse, take over the Gaelic League at its Dundalk conference. Douglas Hyde resigns as its President.
*August 1 - Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin, and Pearse delivers the graveside oration.
