Skag Trendy

Skag Trendy

Skag trendy is a slang term that has come into popular usage, mostly in the UK, around 200102 with the rise of London-based punk and indie bands such as The Libertines. As "skag" is a slang term for heroin and "trendy" is a term for "fashionable", the term has the same meaning as heroin chic.

Definition

Skag Trendy refers to a style of fashion that mimics, or is a direct reference to, the style worn by most of the current and old group of British indie rock bands. The most famous of these bands is The Libertines, and most people who are 'skag trendy' will look very much like the former frontman, Carl Barat. Other bands that have an influence include Babyshambles, Dirty Pretty Things, The Paddingtons, The View, and The Kooks.

Items

'Skag Trendy' often includes the following pieces of clothing and accessories: skinny jeans, straw hats, vests, tight tee shirts, Fred Perry polo shirts, braces, flat caps, rosary beads, Converse trainers, pointy boots, long dark coats, sunglasses, purple t-shirts, single strap bags, and trilbies.

Skag Trendy was the fifth song on Dundee-based band "The View"'s debut album Hats off to the Buskers.
