RACS Cricket Club

RACS Cricket Club dates back to 1920, based originally at Churchmanor Way in Plumstead, a short distance from the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, it was originallly formed as the works side made up from employees from the local Royal Arsenal Co-operative Society. RACS stands for Royal Arsenal Co-Operative Society. The club's badge depicts an artillery piece. The club played from 1947 to 1998 at Footscray Road in New Eltham until forced to move to the Metrogas ground in Avery Hill. RACS is playing it's 9th season there.

The Club was one of the founder members of the Kent Metropolitan Cricket League winning the First XI league at the first time of asking. Later joining the North Kent Cricket League in 1989 going on to take the First XI title in three successive years from 1990 - 1992. 1993 brought an invitation to join the South Thames Cricket League and again the First XI title was lifted at the first opportunity.

1996 heralded the restructuring of league cricket in Kent and winning parallel League B brought about promotion to the Kent League Premier Division.

RACS has not reached those dizzy heights in recent times, but continue to play high level competitive cricket and are renowned for an excellent team spirit.

The success of RACS Colts has contributed greatly to the rebuilding of the senior sides, with regular appearances from the senior Colts in both Saturday League teams as well as the Sunday side.
