Bobby Weaver

Bobby Weaver

Bobby Weaver was a gold medal-winning wrestler in the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Wrestling career

Weaver wrestled at Easton Area High School in Easton, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania. Easton competes in the Lehigh Valley Conference, generally considered one of the premier wrestling conferences in the nation. He graduated from Easton in 1977 and went on to wrestle at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1981.

Although he placed no better than third in the NCAA Wrestling Championships, Weaver went on to win the gold medal in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Weaver was also the 105.5 United States winner for the U.S. Olympic team in freestyle wrestling for the 1980 Summer Olympics, though the U.S. boycotted the Olympics that year.

Weaver was a flamboyant winner, especially when he won by pin. He was known to jump up and down and do somersaults in the air particularly when he pinned 1976 Olympian William Rosado for the 1980 team berth and when he pinned Takashi Irie in the 1984 105.5 Olympic finals. He was beaten once by Pat Sole.

Personal

He is married and has three children, Bobby Jr., Tiffany and Jessi.
