- Rolls-Royce RR300
The Rolls-Royce RR300 is a turbine engine developed for the light helicopter market. Rated at 300 shp (224 kW) at take-off power, the RR300 is a scaled-down version of one of the latest versions of the
Rolls-Royce Model 250 . For instance, the Model 250-C40, with an overall pressure ratio of 9.2:1 at an airflow 6.1lb/s, develops 715 shp. Scaling this engine to 300shp yielded a very compact engine with scale effects having only a modest impact upon specific fuel consumption.Fact|date=July 2008
The new five-seat
Robinson R66 light helicopter will feature the Rolls-Royce RR300 as a turboshaft engine. Rolls-Royce have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Schweizer Aircraft to discuss future applications of the new RR300 engine family. Since Schweizer produce both helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, Rolls-Royce probably intend to produce bothturboshaft andturboprop versions of the RR300, as with the Model 250.Fact|date=June 2007 FAA type certification for the RR300 was achieved by March 2008, with production to follow.
