The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" is a series of four bestselling young adult novels by Ann Brashares. Released by Random House Publications, the novels tell the continuing story of four girls who acquire a pair of magical jeans that fit all four of them perfectly, even though they're all different shapes and sizes. The four main characters are Bridget (the soccer jock), Lena (the shy and beautiful), Carmen (the drama queen), and Tibby (the rebel). The series follows the girls through the four summers following their sophomore year (age 15) in high school. The series ends with their first summer following college.

Adaptations

On September 11, 2001, the first book in the series was released on audio cassette. Since then, all four books of the series have been released on audio CD with the last book being released on CD on January 9, 2007.

The first book was made into a movie in 2005. The movie stars Alexis Bledel as Lena, Amber Tamblyn as Tibby, America Ferrera as Carmen, and Blake Lively as Bridget.

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2", the sequel to the original movie, was released on August 6, 2008. It mostly follows the fourth book, but also includes Bridget visiting her grandmother from the second book and Carmen's mother having a baby from the third. The fourth book was released in 2008 as a companion to the movie.
