Langton Matravers

Langton Matravers

Langton Matravers is a village in the Purbeck district of Dorset, England, just outside Swanage. The village had a population of 973 in 2001, up from 773 in 1891. The village is a popular tourist destination and 16.9% of homes in the village are second homes. The name Langton stems from "long town" and the name Matravers stems from the name of Lord Mautravers who once resided there, and ultimately originates from the French "mal traverse".

The village has two campsites which are widely used for tourists visiting the local area:
* Tom's Field Camping
* Acton Field

The Village is home to St. George's first school which was established at the end of the 19th century. Next door is The Old Malthouse, a preparatory school for boys and girls founded in 1906, but closed in 2007. The village is walking distance to Dancing Ledge, Seacombe and Windspit, the start of the Jurassic Coast and a fine stretch for climbing and walking.
