"Plasmodium pteropti" is a currently (2007) considered to be a species of the genus "Hepatocystis" rather than "Plasmodium".

The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are mammals.

Description

This species was described by Breinl in 1912 in "Pteropus gouldi" and by Mackie in 1914 in "Pteropus edwarsi".

Clinical features and host pathology

This species infects the flying fox ("Pteropus gouldi") and the bat ("Pteropus edwarsi").
