Fullbrook School

Fullbrook School

Fullbrook School is a mixed secondary school and sixth form in north west Surrey, England. The school holds Specialist Mathematics and Computing College status which it gained in 2002. The school gained Grant Maintained status in the mid nineties and was then given foundation status in 1999. Its main catchment areas are Byfleet, West Byfleet and New Haw with some pupils coming from Addlestone and Sheerwater. In 2003, the chair of the governing body was Reverend G. Holliday. There are over 200 students in the school's attached Sixth Form college.

Facilities

Fullbrook School is a large site that incorporates Technology, Art, ICT and specialist Maths facilities. It also has a sports centre facility, which opened in 1997, that is open to both pupils and the public. Originally opened for just 600 pupils, the site has seen building work for a number of years, with several significant projects in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The original staffroom was at the front of the school in what is now the head teacher's office. It was moved to the room immediately by the main entrance to the building, which was subsequently refitted as a science laboratory when staff moved into a new purpose-built block. The building work has produced a steady reduction in recreational areas for pupils over the years. There are large playing fields adjacent to the school, which also contain high voltage pylons. An electromagnetic survey performed on behalf of the school governors concluded that there was no measureable effect from the pylons on school grounds.

Curriculum

For many years, the school curriculum was notable for its unusual "six day" timetable, which minimised teaching time lost to bank holidays and school closure days. At the start of the 2008 autumn term this timetable cycle was extended to 10 days.

Faculty

The current head teacher, Anne Turner, has held the position after transferring from Woking High School in 2006. She has started to improve the standards of the school but was not in charge long enough to prevent the poor OFSTED report of February 2007. She has been criticised by some members of staff for the way she implemented the revised school day.

The School employs over 150 full time staff.

Sport

Fullbrook taught Fulham Reserve Team player Matthew Saunders, who was the captain for his Fullbrook side, Matthew continues to play for Fulham Reserves and is hoping to become a professional footballer and is expected to make his first team debut in the upcoming season, as well as Pro Golfer Laura Davies. She often attends the school to support Physical Education events at the school.
