Kabori

Kabori is a famous movie star of Bangladesh. She stepped into the field of cinema as an amateur artist at the age of 13. Her full name is Kabori Sarwar. She studied at Sir Ashutosh College of Chittagong.

Her role in the Media

Kabori Sarwar along with Razzaque formed one of the most enduring romantic pair in the history of Bangladeshi cinema. Together the Kabori-Razzaque) pair heralded the golden age of Bangladeshi cinema. "Rongbaaj, Abirbhab, MoynaMoti, Agontuk, Anirban, Chokher Joley, Upohar" and several others enthralled film buffs during the 1970s and mid-'80s. Razzaque was the hero of most of Kabori's films.

It was back in 1964 that Kabori acted in her first film, "Shutorang", under Subhash Dutta's direction, and coincidentally after 40 years, in 2004, Subhash Dutta acted in the movie "Aaina" under Kabori's direction.

Kabori has also had remarkable on-screen chemistry with Farooq in the 1970s. This has evident in two blockbusters "Shujon Shokhi" and "Shareng Bou". She made pair with Bulbul Ahmed in most talked about film "Devdas", made on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's timeless classic. She also acted in a Urdu film "Bahana" by Zahir Raihan with co-star Rahman.

Kabori also worked with co-actors like Sohel Rana, Ujjal, Wasim, Khan Ataur Rahman, Golam Mustafa, Anwar Hossain and ATM Shamsuzzaman.

Her role in the Liberation War

Kabori played few roles in the freedom fight of Bangladesh. She fled to Kolkata, India. There she gave a moving speech in front of the Bangladeshi Mission. At that time, being interviewed by Akash Bani, Kabori, appealed to the world in general to help stop the genocide in which innocent women and children were being mercilessly killed, raped and left to die. Kabori had requested the Indian government and the local people there to let the refugees from the erstwhile East Pakistan to stay on in India for some time. During the nine months of war, she took part in the famous film actor I S Johar's film "Joy Bangladesh" and contributed a percentage of her earnings to the Mukti Joddha Fund.

Her present life

At present Kabori has been participating in National Acivities with intelligent and austerity-minded people of Bangladesh. Kabori wants to put her 30 years experience in acting into film directing, given the financial backing. She is strongly against the lewd films that flood the cinema hall. She runs an NGO for handicapped children and adults, called Green Valley Shelter. Incidentally, she is the mother of five sons, two of them now working in USA. She is one of the eminent cultural personality of Bangladesh.
