European Research Networks

European Research Networks

European Research Networks is a trend in scientific research at European Union level that has been widely promoted through Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development since 1984 to strengthen European Research Area.

However, Framework Programmes are not the only influence of Europe-wide research and education networking, as there are a number of scientific collaborations and organizations in various fields that have continued with research cooperation within and outside Europe.

Framework programmes

Establishing and development of intra-European as well as global networks has been a major instrument of Sixth Framework Programme between 2000–2006, and subsequently Seventh Framework Programme (2007-2013) in the form of Collaborative Research Projects, Support and Coordination Actions, and Networks of Excellence. These research networks have increasingly become a common feature of inter-disciplinary and cross-border cooperation.
