Simon Friend

Simon Friend

Simon Friend (born 17 May 1967, Upper Norwood, South East London, England) is a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, harmonica, mandolin, banjo and mandocello) with the contemporary British rock band, The Levellers.

Simon was educated at Repton School in Derbyshire between 1980-1985, where he was a member of Brook House and played trumpet in the school orchestra. His early rock career also started when playing lead guitar and vocals in Speed Limit, one of the school's student rock bands at the time. The song "Is It Art?", appearing on The Levellers' eponymous album as "It This Art?", was originally composed and performed by Friend with help from fellow Speed Limit band member Nick Holder, while they were at the school.
