K-140 begins at a junction with K-14 north of Ellsworth. It heads due east from here to meet K-156. It then junctions with K-111 north of Kanopolis and ruins through the unincorporated community of Carneiro before turning more northeast. It then serves as the northern terminus of K-141 before crossing into Saline County.
K-140 passes through the unincorporated town of Brookville and the town of Bavaria. Approaching Salina, it becomes State St. It then ends at I-135 (exit 93).
