- Cerralvo Island
Cerralvo Island is an uninhabited
island off the coast of the Cerralvo Channel near the city of La Paz in theMexican state ofBaja California Sur . It is eighteen miles long with a land area of 136.498 km² (52.702 sq mi), and is the ninth-largest island in Mexico. It is part of the Municipality of La Paz. The peak of the island comes to convert|2100|ft|m|abbr=on and the ridgline runs north-south with many small streams draining east to theSea of Cortez and west to the Cupalo Channel. There are many steep bluffs on the eastern sides and many sandy beaches and points on the west side. The island is currently for sale for $35,000,000.There is abundant sea life surrounding Cerralvo Island due to the necessary area of space and ocean currents. Virtually all sea life must migrate past Cerralvo Island and water visibility goes up to thirty meters making it a prime location for big game fishing. The waters around Cerralvo are abundant with Golden Grouper, Broadbill Swordfish, Marlin, Sailfish, and other game fish. The views from the island at dawn and sunset are very lively and filled with color.
There are many development opportunities on Cerralvo Island, yet none currently underway, and the more gently sloped southern side of the island could be developed into as big an area as La Paz. However once development does occur, the island will require an electricity generator, a desalination plant, and a sewage treatment facility.
