Geoffrey of Trani

Geoffrey of Trani [ Goffredo da Trani, Goffredo di Trani, Gottofredo da Trani, Goffredus de Trani, Goffredus Tranensis ] (born Trano, Apulia, d. 1245) was an Italian jurist, known as a canon lawyer. He was a student at Bologna of Azo, and then became professor at Naples, then at Bologna. [ [http://www.canonlaw.info/canonlaw_IUSGOTTO.htm] .] He was made a cardinal deacon by Pope Innocent IV. His "Summa super titulis decretalium" [Online manuscript [http://laurentius.lub.lu.se/volumes/Mh_11/] ] and other writings on decretals became a basic resource for canon law.
