A smart catalog is a term used in the software and Internet industry to describe rules-based product and service listings in online and offline electronic guides.

Smart catalogs present users with accurate, pricing, product/service descriptions, and proper product configuration options. Users are able to customize a product or solution to fit their need.

Uses

Common uses for smart catalogs include ecommerce shopping carts which allow parameter based customization of products and services, guided selling or mentored selling smart catalogs which present the user with an intelligent question and answer session to guide them to a tailored solution.

Smart catalogs provide companies the ability to maintain and enforce all business rules at the point of sale to insure information systems, distributors, prospects and customers have accurate information to create clean quotes and orders.
