"ttyl" is a
young adult novel byLauren Myracle , published byHarry N. Abrams, Inc. In 2004, it gained attention for being the first-ever novel written entirely in the style ofinstant messaging conversation. The novel was aNew York Times ,Publishers Weekly , andBook Sense bestseller, and has had two sequels, "ttfn" and "l8r, g8r "."ttyl" is about three friends, high school sophomores who face teenage drama: Madigan Kinnick (madmaddie), Zoe Barrett (zoegirl), and Angela Silver (SnowAngel). Zoe has to deal with a flirty teacher in school who uses Christianity as an excuse to get close and is a rather poor example as a Christian. Madigan/Maddie has to deal with a manipulative and wicked classmate who is popular, or thinks she is. Angela has to deal with a guy who seems to cheat on her, even though he really doesn't and so he decides to dump Angela.
The book's sometimes explicit content has led to some controversy, most notably in Round Rock, Texas, where parents are circulating a petition to get the book removed from middle school libraries. One parent was cited in a report from KXAN-TV, republished on MSNBC.com: "A few pages into it and it was clear, [it's] off the charts vulgar."
