The album features collaborations of Rush's guitarist Alex Lifeson and King Crimson's Robert Fripp.

In September 2007, they released "Nil Recurring", an EP of four leftover tracks product of the recording sessions for "Fear of a Blank Planet". It was released on Transmission, the band's own record label as a limited edition of 5000 copies that did not late to sell out through the band's online store, Burning Shed, forcing the band to keep printing more copies for indefinite time. Nevertheless, the EP was reissued in February 18, 2008 on Peaceville Records [cite web|url =http://theseaweedfarm.blogspot.com/2007/11/nil-recurring-on-peaceville-records.html|title =The Seaweed Farm: Nil Recurring on Peaceville Records| accessdate =2007-11-25] .

An in-store appearance at Park Avenue CDs in Orlando, Florida from October 4, 2007, was recorded and released on CD under the name of "We Lost The Skyline" [cite web|url =http://theseaweedfarm.blogspot.com/2008/02/nil-recurring-and-we-lost-skyline.html|title =The Seaweed Farm: Nil Recurring and We Lost The Skyline released today!| accessdate =2008-02-18] . The title is a reference to the lyrics on "The Sky Moves Sideways (Phase One)". The album was released on vinyl in March 21st, 2008 [cite web|url =http://theseaweedfarm.blogspot.com/2008/03/we-lost-skyline-vinyl-edition.html|title =The Seaweed Farm: We Lost The Skyline vinyl edition| accessdate =2008-03-21] . It is the Porcupine Tree's first official acoustic live record.

Counterfeit CDs

There is a huge problem with counterfeit Porcupine Tree CDs, as many of their albums were released as limited 20,000 copy runs. The net has become overrun with these fakes and they are hard to tell from the real thing. They are factory-pressed, but usually in Russia or China, and are identical to the originals with two key exceptions: 1) the artwork is slightly different (the right-hand side is slightly cut off and sometimes there is "PORCUPINE TREE- STUPID DREAM" printed at the top in neon green) and 2) on the bottom of the discs, between the clear and silver parts, there will be a small number line on the white strip, as opposed to the authentic large numberline AND barcode. Also, the counterfeits tend to be in jewel cases as opposed to digipaks in which most of the remasters have been released.
