Mr Northe was able to double the Nationals primary vote, he secured with the aid of Liberal Party and ex labor independent preferences; and the first time the seat was lost by the Australian Labor Party in almost 140 years. This win also secured Nationals official party status.Russell Northe joins fellow Nationals parliamentarians Peter Ryan, Peter Hall and Peter Jester as parliamentary representatives for Gippsland.
