- Towns of Skåne
Stad in Skåne are localities with
town privileges given under Danish rule before 1658 or under Swedish rule after that. The criteria for town privileges in Denmark were different from those in Sweden. The judicial term "stad" was abolished in 1971. Today, there is no official definition of "cities" and "towns" in Sweden.
Statistics Sweden , however, uses the term "stad" for localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants, regardless of their former status. The following towns in Scania were given town privileges under Danish rule:

Another route is taken by the municipality of
Staffanstorp , that from the 1990s actively has promoted the construction of neighbourhoods with streets and architecture that looks similar to century-old houses in towns of Holland, Denmark and northern Germany. That is how a town-centre in Staffanstorp (population 13,500) is erected as well as the new medieval-inspiredJakriborg district ofHjärup , planned for 1,300apartment s. This might, in due time, change the common perception of Staffanstorp and Hjärup from that of villages to that of (small-) towns.Urban areas in order of size
