MV Mary Murray

MV Mary Murray

The MV Mary Murray is a former Staten Island Ferry vessel.

It was made surplus and sold to George Searle in the 1970s. Shortly after purchasing the Mary Murray, Mr. Searle had the vessel towed to his marina along the Raritan River, where it hasn't moved since. It has become something of a local landmark for motorists on the New Jersey Turnpike.[1]

The vessel's derelict status is fueling a controversy as to whether or not it should be removed as it is currently located adjacent to the Basilone Bridge at Exit 9 on the NJ Turnpike in East Brunswick Township, New Jersey.

In March 2008 it was announced that the ferry will be dismantled and used for scrap metal.[2]

George Saerle died on March 20, 2009.[3]
