Church of the Ascension, Hulme

Church of the Ascension, Hulme

The Church of the Ascension serves the parish of Hulme, Greater Manchester. The Ascension is an Anglican (Church of England) church in the Diocese of Manchester. The church was built during the first redevelopment of Hulme in the 1960s. The building was designed by the London based architects Maguire and Murray. The Ascension was dedicated on 7th May 1970.

The Ascension aims to be a welcoming and inclusive Christian community. As the parish's motto says: 'All are welcome at the Ascension; let no one be a stranger here'.

The Rector of the parish is Canon Alma Servant. She is much loved by some and is reported to be the most tireless Rector in the parish's history.

Worship

Worship at the Ascension is very much within the 'modern-catholic' tradition. As such, the Eucharist is 'celebrated' as the central act of worship.

The Sunday Eucharist takes place at 10am. There is a 'Junior Church' for younger members of the congregation.

Weekday masses are 'celebrated' on Tuesday at 7.30pm and on Wednesday at 12pm.
