C.H.Y. FM
C.H.Y. FM is a Youthradio station. located in Coffs Harbour New South Wales, Australia.
It was launched in 1973 with the concept of nurturing the talents of the youth in the local area. Many Coffs Harbour businesses donated material, time and advice and CHY (Coffs Harbour Youth) made its first broadcast on 1 December 1973. More than 4000 students have completed the CHY experience, with the latest intake being 60 new student members making a grand total of 150. A number of previous members have gone onto success in the commercial world. CHY FM is dedicated to the development of self esteem, communication skills and community spirit in its trainees starting at the age of 13, providing a bridge from the sheltered school system to the employment world. Over 25 years CHY FM has developed into a state of the art radio station - from its beginnings of a one room set up to a fully equipped On-Air studio, Training studio, Production Studio, and Offices. The original studio and the current one were built by TJH Broadcast Systems. The day to day technical operation has been cared for by John Williams from ADNET Audio since 1989. C.H.Y. FM is an acronym for "Coffs Harbour Youth" Radio Station in the bandwidth of FM or Frequency Modulation.
C.H.Y. FM, a great place for the youth of Coffs Harbour to get a chance to experience the different types of broadcasting media, and in this case radio. To gain skills in this field, and hopefully broaden career opportunities in the future for all of its members.
