It was created onJanuary 1 ,1999 as a result of the Local Government Reorganization Act of 1998. Its administrative seat is the city ofKrosno , although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The county contains four towns:Jedlicze , convert|9|km|mi|0|abbr=on north-west of Krosno,Rymanów , convert|17|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-east of Krosno,Dukla , convert|14|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of Krosno, andIwonicz Zdrój , convert|13|km|mi|0|abbr=on south of Krosno.The county covers an area of convert|923.79|km2|sqmi|1. As of 2006 its total population is 109,715, out of which the population of Jedlicze is 5,593, that of Rymanów is 3,564, that of Dukla is 2,136, that of Iwonicz Zdrój is 1,891, and the rural population is 96,531.
