Taejonggyo

Taejonggyo is a religion of Korea.

At 4300 years, is Korea's oldest religion. Until the early 1900's it was called Koshindo, it formulates the birth of the nation of Korea. The religion dates to the 24th century BC and embraces a single god, the creator and teacher. The god called Hanul took human form and is termed Tan-gun, or Dangun, the father, teacher and king of Korea.

"Samguk Yusa" records his birth in 2333 BC with the traditional Korean calendar dating from this event. His heavenly father is called Hwanung and his mother was a woman transformed from a bear, Ungnyeo. Tan-gun ascended to heaven following a reign that continued for more than a thousand years.
