Antonio Scontrino (
May 17 ,1850 ,Trapani –January 7 ,1922 ,Florence ) was an Italiancomposer .Scontrino studied at the
Palermo Conservatory from 1861 and 1870 and later inMunich . He began performing as adouble bass ist in 1891. In 1898, he became a professor of composition at the Palermo Conservatory and also taught in Florence afterwards.He composed five
opera s, several largeorchestra l works (including symphonies), oneconcerto each for double bass,bassoon , andpiano , fourstring quartet s,incidental music , pieces for piano, choral music, andlied er.The Conservatorio di Musica "Antonio Scontrino" in Trapani is named in his memory.
