secondary school located inTendring , inEssex . The school has twocampus es, the Lower School inThorpe-le-Soken , and the Upper school situated inFrinton This is the largest distance between two campuses of the same secondary school in the United Kingdom (with the distance reaching just over 5 miles).Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) are located in Thorpe, andKey Stage 4 (Years 10 to 11) andSixth Form (TVIC) are at the Frinton Campus. Tendring Technology College currently have over 1700 pupils on roll, split between the two sites. The college was previously led by Mike Watson, however in 2004, he went into early retirement after twenty years at the school. [http://archive.echo-news.co.uk/2004/7/20/127971.html] He was replaced by the current Principal, Caroline Haynes, who recently won East Anglia's Best Head Teacher award for her hard work and dedication towards education [http://www.teachingawards.com/winners/winnerDetail.ikml?id=6418&t=reg&y=7] . This is clearly shown in a recent Ofsted inspection which praised the school, with "good" or above marked in every category. The college Vice Principal is Bob Allen, based at the Frinton Campus and Sixth Form Centre.
The school has also created the Students-Voice website, a forum where students can discuss ideas with each other, and students can also be moderators. The Students Voice idea was coined by a group of students, and now is mainly a forum which has been expanded to the whole of the Eastern Region. Anyone from the Eastern Region can register, seeing as the site has now been expanded to promote links between schools and their students.
The school's business studies department is part of the Young Enterprise scheme, and for this, there are several college productions put on every year such as talent shows etc. The Sixth Form also have their annual Sixth Form Revue, which is a collection of sketches shown live and on projected video. There is also a tradition that a band performs at each show. The Revue is typically held on the last day before the college closes for Christmas. Although the Young Enterprise scheme has been praised as a success, in 2005 Business studys teacher and head on the young enterprise Mark Seward unfortunately left over 50 bonsai trees outside in the cold leading to the Enterprise having to buy more.
The sixth formers at the college also run a weekly magazine for the school called "Goodbye!". A parody of the popular UK magazine "Hello". Inside the mag includes articles both related and unrelated to college life. Alongside changing articles each issue depends on the situation in the college and world. The School also took part in a transatlantic twinning program in 2001 and was twined with Bayside High School in Palisades, California. In 2002 a group of students took part in an exchange program to the school, with American and English students trading places for a week. The schools still remain close with an annual gift exchange taking part on May 22nd each year.
The school's performing arts department has also put on several productions in recent years, such as Little Shop of Horrors, The Tempest and Lion Witch and Wardrobe. The 2008 production "Oliver" was fantastic, with all the cast and crew doing brilliantly. There are twelve tutor groups in each year. At the end of each academic year, there is a staff karaoke contest which has taken place for the past three years.
