Torani

Torani

Torani is a brand of Italian-style drink syrups and flavor bases, first introduced in the Italian-American community of San Francisco, California's North Beach neighborhood.

The makers of the Torani branded products track their history back to 1925, when Rinaldo Torre and his wife, Ezilda, introduced the Italian soda to America. In addition to their use in sodas, the syrups have become common additives to espresso-based beverages, hot chocolates, brewed coffees and teas in American coffeehouses and restaurants.

The Torani brand itself became somewhat popular among college students in the United States during the middle to late 1990s. The drink is encased in a glass bottle similarly shaped to those containing alcoholic spirits, but Torani's product is non-alcoholic. While Torani included a wide variety of flavors at first, only French vanilla was initially offered in a sugar-free version.

Torani's sugar-free versions during the 2000s have expanded to include caramel, chocolate and various other flavors (now 29 different flavors). Overall, the syrup portfolio includes a total 66 varieties as of August 2008, including sugar-free versions and seasonal flavors. The syrups are complemented by an eight-item sauce line, and a smoothie/blended drink flavor base line with 11 offerings.

Torani products are manufactured in the United States by South San Francisco-based R. Torre & Company.
