Bitterant

Bitterant

A bitterant is a chemical that is added to a product to make it smell or taste bad. The main purpose of bitterants is to prevent people from poisoning themselves from the inhalation and/or ingestion of odorless and/or tasteless toxic chemicals.

Bitterants are used in many consumer applications. Gas dusters producers often add a "bitterant" to discourage inhalant abuse. The addition of bitterants to products has been met with resistance in some applications.
