1998 ACC Men's Basketball Tournament

The 1998 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Basketball Tournament took place from March 5-8, 1998 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Coliseum. North Carolina won the tournament for the second year in a row, defeating arch-rival Duke in the championship game. The Tar Heels won the tournament for the 15th time in school history, adding to their ACC record. The record would stand until 2006, when Duke won their 16th ACC Tournament in school history. North Carolina has since tied Duke for the most ACC Tournament titles. The Tar Heels would continue their success into the NCAA Tournament, making it to the Final Four for the second year in a row before losing to Utah.

From 1998-2000, the ACC Tournament adopted a format that ensured the top seeded team would play the last place team in the first round. The winner of this game would have a bye for the quarterfinals, playing their next game in the semifinal round. The play-in game pitted the #7 seed versus the #8 seed. The winner of the play-in game would play the #2 seed in the quarterfinal round. Antawn Jamison was the tournament mvp.
