- Issa Asgarally
Issa Asgarally, a native and lifelong resident of
Mauritius , is doctor in linguistics, and professor at theMauritius Institute of Education . He is regarded as a leading intellectual figure on the island, and is influential in literature and the media. His native language is
Mauritian Creole , he is cultured in French, and teaches in English.Asgarally was born in a part of the island where many ethnic groups live together, and has tried all his life to come up with a philosophy on how people could live together in peace.
Asgarally opposes the “multicultural” approach to the mosaic of people, which emphasizes understanding the various cultures, and the differences between cultures.
Asgarally advocates an emphasis on commonalities between people. He says that there is a fundamental unity of people as human beings, which, if understood, can become the basis upon which any balanced system needs be built. People would then see each other as equal partners and enjoy an equality, confidence in themselves and each other, and would enjoy equal access to the economic or political power (however since this is just a philosophy, he has no practical recommendations on how to make this happen).
Asgarally has published ten books on diverse related topics, from literature to social issues,
philosophy ,history ,education ,culture and theart s. He has also written about the consequences ofslavery in theIndian ocean .Books
