Vibeke Stene

Vibeke Stene

Vibeke Stene (pronounced vih-beh-kie) (born August 17, 1978) is a Norwegian female singer. She is most often recognized as the former vocalist of the gothic metal band Tristania. She joined the band shortly before they started recording their self-titled demo. At first she was meant to be only an additional singer, but later on she joined the band permanently.

Stene's singing has become well known to fans of gothic metal, mostly throughout Europe, mainly because her vocals maintain a distinctive quality.

On February 27, 2007, Stene left Tristania due to personal reasons. She stated that the reason was she wanted to pursue a long-held dream of hers; to teach singing.

Discography

Tristania has recorded five full-length albums, one EP and one single, with Stene as the lead female vocalist:
* "Tristania" (EP) (1997)
* "Widow's Weeds" (1997)
* "Angina/Midwinters Tears" (1998)
* "Beyond the Veil" (1998)
* "World of Glass" (2000)
* "Ashes" (2005)
* "Illumination" (2007)

Stene has also worked with Green Carnation on their album "Journey to the End of the Night" (1999) and with Samael on the song Suspended Time from the album "Solar Soul" (2007).

When she is not occupied with her musical duties, Stene likes to knit, read, and spend time with her friends and family. She is an introvert, but quite friendly to talk to, as say journalists who have inteviewed the classically trained singer.

Stene has been attending classical singing lessons since she was thirteen and met the future members of Tristania during her first years in high school.

Trivia:In spring 2007, around the same time Stene left Tristania, the Finnish symphonic power metal band Nightwish was going to announce the name of their respective new female vocalist. Due to Stene's recent parting ways with Tristania, it was widely discussed in the musical circles, whether Vibeke would be inducted into Nightwish to replace Tarja Turunen. The rumour was quickly denied, however, when Stene said in an interview, "I am not the new singer in Nightwish.
