- George Lyon
George Lyon (born 16 July 1956 in Rothesay) is a Scottish Liberal Democrat politician, and a former
Member of the Scottish Parliament for Argyll and Bute, and former Deputy Minister for Finance, Public Service Reform and Parliamentary Business.Previously a Vice-President, then President of the
National Farmers Union of Scotland , he joined the Liberal Democrats not long before he was first elected to theScottish Parliament (to representArgyll and Bute ) at the 1999 election. It is rumoured thatJohn Swinney , the then Vice-Convenor of theScottish National Party had tried to persuade him to join the nationalists.He was re-elected in the 2003 Scottish Parliamentary Election and is currently a co-convenor of the Scottish Parliament's Cross-Party Group on the Scottish Economy.
Following
Nicol Stephen 's election as party leader and succession asDeputy First Minister of Scotland , Lyon was appointed Deputy Minister for Finance, Public Service Reform and Parliamentary Business in theScottish Executive .He lost his seat in the 2007 election to
