] The "Washington Post" reported that Ehsannullah was one of eighteen men repatriated to Afghanistan on March 22 2003, and released with a certificate of innocence by Afghan authorities on March 26 2003.

Ehsannullah is not a name listed on the official list of captives the Department of Defense released on May 15 2006. The "Washington Post" reported that Ehsannullah was 29. He claimed American soldiers in Afghanistan had taunted him and beat him. He told the "Washington Post" the soldiers had dumped a Quran in a toilet: "We cried so much and shouted, 'Please do not do that to the Holy Koran.'"

Ehsannullah, and the other released captives, were given a one set of western clothes, including running shoes, and a package containing their medical records.
