"I Let the Stars Get In My Eyes" is the name of a popular Country Music song, that was originally a hit for Goldie Hill in 1953.

The Story Behind the Song

Goldie Hill was one of the pioneering women in Country Music at this time. Along with Kitty Wells and her massive 1952 hit "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels", Goldie Hill became one of the first women in Country Music to achieve a #1 record. In 1952, Goldie Hill was trying to make it as a Country artist after siging a contract with Decca Records that year. She released her first single from the record company in 1952 called "Why Talk to My Heart". However, the single was not successful at all. It took until Wells had her big hit that Hill actually made it onto the Country market, after producers were able to see that women could indeed sell number-one records. Country singer Slim Willet helped write the song, along with Hill's brother, Tommy Hill, who was also a musician.

The song was an answer song to the big Pop Music hit Perry Como had with his song "Don't Let the Stars Get In Your Eyes". Slim Willet and Skeets McDonald also recorded Coutnry versions of the song that became hits. When Hill and Willet wrote the answer song, it was originally intended for Kitty Wells. However, Hill got a hold of it first and recorded it. The song was then released by Decca Records in late 1952, and became a #1 smash in 1953, turning Goldie Hill into a major star overnight. Although it was a brief stay at the top, Goldie Hill was one of the biggest names in the business, along with Kitty Wells. Hill's success inspired other female Country singers to try to make into the music business. Some of these singers later did, like Jean Shepard in 1953, Patsy Cline in 1957, and Skeeter Davis in 1958. "I Let the Stars Get In My Eyes" remains as one of Country Music's most remembered songs.
